The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities. Let’s change the tune for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness... because it’s cold out there. Join us on February 22, 2025 - team up, fundraise, and walk with us!
Eden Food for Change has been operating food banks in western Mississauga for over 34 years, and currently provides food access to over 1,000 food insecure households and over 4,200 individuals monthly, including newcomers to Mississauga. Eden also operates a cooking school for food bank members and a professional culinary training program for individuals wanting to be employed as chefs. Eden’s commercial kitchen produces hot meals for the Meals-on-Wheels program throughout Mississauga and Oakville.
Prior to the pandemic, Eden provided 492,000 pounds of food a year to its members, and its community engagement program provided over 30,000 culturally appropriate meals to households in the city.
However, currently, the organization is experiencing a surge due to the rise in food costs and overall inflation in the country. With a cumulative increase of over 200% in people accessing Eden's food banks since the pandemic, the charity is expected to have given out over 1.5 million lbs. of food by the end of the year, and over 100,000 lbs. prepared meals to food insecure families in 2024 alone. Of the total individuals served each month by Eden, 40% are kids and youth.
The funds raised through the Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk will help to significantly improve the efficiency of the foodbank operations, reach, and overall ability to serve the community better, especially at this time of the year known historically for low levels of giving.
